How MenuMap Explore ranks
Every list puts well-rated places with the most Google reviews first: businesses rated 4.0 or better are ordered by how many Google reviews they have, and the rest follow by rating.
Why the number of reviews leads
Most Google reviews are written by people who went, stayed, bought or booked. Across one town, the number of reviews a place has is the plainest public sign of how many people go there, so on these lists, among the places people rate well, the one with the most reviews comes first.
Why only among places rated 4.0 or better
Busy is not the same as good, so volume only leads among the places people also rate well. A business needs a Google rating of 4.0 or better to be ordered by its number of reviews. A business rated below 4.0 is listed after all of them, ordered by its rating, however many reviews it has.
Ties
When two places have the same number of reviews, the one with the higher rating goes first. Below 4.0, two places with the same rating are ordered by their number of reviews. If both figures match, they are listed by name.
For a caterer, a celebrant or a photographer, read “visited” as “hired”: their reviews come from the people who booked them.
The order is a guide to where people go, not a verdict on which place will suit you. Every row shows its rating and the number of reviews behind it, so you can weigh the two yourself.
What is listed
A business is listed when its Google listing has a rating from at least 5 reviews, is not marked closed, and can be placed in a city or town from its own address or map position. A business that has asked not to be listed is left out of this directory, and so is any copy of its listing. A list is only indexed and linked from the directory when it holds at least three businesses.
Where the figures come from
Ratings and review counts are Google's, as read in October 2026. Phone numbers, websites and opening hours are the ones each business lists on Google. Nothing is paid for: no business can buy a place or pay to move up, and no business is verified by MenuMap.
Removals, and problems with a listing
A business's details here come from its Google listing, so the place to change them is the listing itself. To have a listing removed, or to report a problem with one, email hello@menumap.com.au with the page address. A removal is checked with the business first, and a confirmed one takes the listing off every page of the directory at the next update.
